Did you know that more than half of homeowners don’t actually like their home?
This could be because it needs work but would make an excellent renovation project because it is a good size and they like the location, or even that they have just fallen out of love with it after a few years.
According to a survey from Zoopla, here are just a few things that people don’t like about their homes:
- 24.4% of people say that they do not have enough space to host friends and family.
- 40.5% of people say they don’t have enough space in general.
- 22.7% of people struggle with not having a dedicated working from home space (a huge one since the pandemic hit!)
The functionalities of your home working in day to day life for you and your loved ones is hugely important and has a big effect on how you live.
We had a call the other day
‘I’ve bought a property…. But I don’t like it’
This isn’t an unusual call for us here at BBD. The first question back is ‘what is it exactly that you don’t like about it?’
There were a few things listed, but the main one: “The layout of the house isn’t right for us.”
They knew this when they bought the property just a few months back, but looked past that and saw the opportunity for a great renovation, as well as a budget to be able to turn the house into a home they absolutely love and will work for them.
Here’s what happened next:
They wanted Architectural advice on what they could do to the home that allowed them to use it how they wanted and do the internal modifications without any slip-ups.
We provided a few things to consider whilst renovating (which may help you out too)
- feedback on the feasibility of their ideas
- rough construction costs
- other professionals that may be required
As an Architect is one of the first ports of call, it’s important you get the right knowledge. A qualified Architect has a duty of care to inform you about all of these, so you know that you are getting thorough appropriate unbiased advice.
